Tips and Techniques

Q: What is the minimum configuration that’s able to run Win Squared?

A: We recommend:

  • Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP or NT 4.0
  • Pentium processor or equivalent (133 MHz or higher recommended)
  • 16 MB RAM (32 MB RAM recommended)
  • 20 Mb Hard disk space
  • Display with resolution of at least 640 x 480
  • 256 color display or better (true color recommended)
  • small font mode
  • standard Windows color scheme
Q: How do I install Win Squared on Windows NT?

A: Check to see if your machine has NT Administrator Rights.  If not, login as an Administrator and install normally.

Q: Will Win Squared work on a Local Area Network?

A: Yes. By installing Win Squared in a shared folder or directory on the server, it is available to any PC or workstation on the network.

Q: What file should be run to start Win Squared using Windows Explorer or My Computer?

A: Win Squared can started by running the WinProg.mde file (version 2.0) or the WinSq30.mde file (version 3.0).

Q: Some of the reports contain blank pages, can this be prevented?

A: Win Squared reports are formatted in inches. If a metric paper size such as "A4" is chosen in the computer's default page or printer setting, blank pages or extra lines may result. The blank pages can be eliminated by choosing a paper size such as 8 1/2 by 11 inches.

Q: How do I minimize the size of Win Squared?

A: Use the Optimize Database command in the Win Squared program group to reduce the size of Win Squared. This will also improve the performance of Win Squared.  The Optimize Database command should be used every couple of weeks.

Q: How do I transfer Plans to another computer?

A: Export the Plan using the “Export” feature found in the Open Plan dialog.  This will create two files (a .neg and a .neb file) in the target directory.  Copy both files to the desired computer and import the Plan using the “Import” feature found in the Open Plan dialog.

Q: Can I copy Win Squared to another computer?

A: No. Win Squared will not run properly unless it is installed from the original CD.

Q: The Win Squared installation program freezes at 99%. The progress bar reads "Skipping file: C:\WINNT\fonts\Tahomabd.ttf" What should I do?

A: Another program is using the Tahomabd.ttf file hindering the installation process. To resolve this, shut down all other open programs and run the Win Squared installation program again.

Q: Why are some colors unevenly displayed on some forms?

A: Some of Window’s alternate color themes may distort the colors in Win Squared.  To resolve this,  choose the “Windows Standard” setting in the Display folder of the Windows Control Panel.

Q: Why do some of the Win Squared forms not fit completely in the screen?

A: If Window’s is using large fonts, and the screen resolution is 640 x 480, and the Window’s taskbar is showing, some of Win Squared forms may not fit in the computer screen. To resolve this, increase the screen resolution, use small fonts, or hide the taskbar.

Q: A message box says Win Squared needs to be repaired. What do I do?

A: Use the Optimize Database command in the Win Squared program group.  This command will repair Win Squared without loss of data.

Q: Will Win Squared version 3.0 overwrite stored plans and profiles from version 2.0?

A: No

Q: Is there a version of Win Squared for Macintosh computers?

A: No. A Macintosh version of Win Squared is not available at this time.

Q: How do I uninstall Win Squared?

A: Run Uninstall.exe. This file will be found in the directory where Win Squared was originally installed.

Q: What software should I use to read the Win Squared Manual?

A: The manual is stored in a "pdf" format. If your computer does not currently have software capable of reading the "pdf" format, you may separately install Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Reader from the Win Squared CD. To install Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) Reader, open the AdobeAcrobatReader Folder on the Win Squared CD and run rs32e301.exe.

The manual is also stored in a "rtf" format.
